    Louise - The shades of the New Religion are the freedoms to discriminate rights to life & liberty. Let's simplify this - heresy thing - perhaps for the level of the tower block or the ghetto. I agree with Tom Holland that the 60's freed up the orthodoxy, perhaps to extremes. This was the new 20th. century ' Reformation ' Some freedoms have been good like the new Pentecostals - Christ has set the prisoners free - even from ' religion ' it seems - but what of ' holiness ' & 'repentance '? Is this a real precursor as needed to protect against the evil spirits & demons thrown to the lower heavens to influence the earth? Jesus said that He saw the devil/s fall from the heavens - this is Biblical truth. Look @ our time - the 21st. century with all the ' ai. ' inventions & ' gender ' ideology that change, even damage the moral power of logic & sense of peoples on earth! Jesus warned that - as in the days of Noah - so it will be at the times of the end of the age. Look around & take note from history. In Noah's day, there were demons & perversions with the ' Nephilim '.That is why the ' Spirit ' in the sky had to cleans the earth with the flood - to save it!? Now we have Technology & Chips of the body for present the day & its own perversions. Surely with the new ' free ' religions, there needs to be some structure like the neo-classical design of structures from the Greeks & Romans to anchor belief systems like the Nicene Creed & a basic credence to the fact that breaking the moral code invites trouble & demons into peoples & present confusions & this dispensation. We do have references to evil from the Assyrians & Babylonians though the Romans to the Mongolians & on to the Russians with Lenin & Stalin - not to mention the Germanic Nazis in World War 11. - all of which amounted to millions of people being annihilated, dispossessed & persecuted. The shades of the ' new religion ' are the freedoms to discriminate rights to life & liberty. - Louise/Tom we need more talks & discussions on this. Badger.

    Considering the "Biological Realities" females in particular reach, and currently all if the let's say, woke-ish policies in higher ed need serious scrutiny anyway, maybe Society could run an Experiment of sorts for say five years where only Married Students are weighted for PhD level admission and Post Docs. I am fairly certain it was policy, back in the Stone Age, that for single folks there were a series of "Gaps" built in between matriculation from Bs to Ma and larger gap for PhD. Which often DeFacto meant an older student, had "Real World (Job) experience, probably at least married and maybe the first child with another on the way. A MUCH more focused student that now realizes starkly how much "Real Life" ACTUALLY costs, let's say. Not to exclusion of some sort of Genius Savant or maybe Med, or Law School just maybe a nod to something of a Chesterton's Fence that got demolished and we are now seeing the 3rd or 4th order affects of across developed countries.

    The biggest change in the US is that white men are no longer hired by corporations and other bureaucracies. And that means the college credential is not as valuable to white men. If they get a Physics, engineering and computer science degree, then they will learn skills but the liberal arts/social science are of no real value for them. This means more men will be non-conformist and start businesses and such. Not unlike those who worked in the workshops and created the Industrial Revolution while the universities were not where the productive went.

  • @jkbrown5496
    @jkbrown5496 День назад

    The fertility rate in the US declined steeply from 1800-1940. It actually lessened in the 1930s. It then spiked until around 1958 and declined to lower than 1940 in 1980 but then popped back over 2 for the 1980s to 2000s then started dropping in 2010. With the much lower child mortality rate (100 per 1000 in 1930 to single digits today) and children no longer being an asset to the family business (farm), it is logical to have fewer children and invest more in them, such as college for all.

    Humans advance on the efforts of the non-conformists. Unfortunately, universities are in the ideological conformist phase of The Priestly Cycle. Basically, back to the technophobic Cambridge/Oxford of the 17th century that meant the Industrial Revolution came out of the workshops of England rather than the universities while the 'elite' had their finishing school of backward thinking. "All mankind’s progress has been achieved as a result of the initiative of a small minority that began to deviate from the ideas and customs of the majority until their example finally moved the others to accept the innovation themselves. To give the majority the right to dictate to the minority what it is to think, to read, and to do is to put a stop to progress once and for all." --Mises, Ludwig von (1927). Liberalism

    Just caught the end of LP's recent Diary of a CEO episode, and am reminded of the classic issue I have on this channel, which is basically with the impulse I find some ppl have to 'ban everything,' lol. However, I'm not sure if Louise's position has slightly shifted and/or become more nuanced, or if I have gleaned a more complete understanding of her positions, or both. In this case, the specific issue involved hypothetically banning all porn (albeit in the context of discussing abuses in the industry). Putting aside how we're probably somewhat differently calibrated on the "small l" libertarian relative to "small c" conservative meter (imo if anyone doesn't have at least a pretty good amount of both, that's a recipe for lunacy,) I mainly wanted to focus on the point regarding how 'outlawing something ppl still get away with potentially undermines the law'. I'm not discounting that point, I assume it's a concern to some extent. However, what I mainly want to say is that, that's not the biggest reason why the US Prohibition era (for example) was such a disaster. The big concern is that outlawing certain things will ACTUALLY FUEL a black market, of the kind that tends to be horrific, and the existence of which produces worse abuses than would typically take place if a behavior were legal, but regulated. (With the understanding that realistically, there are limits to the capacity for policing). I'm happy to acknowledge that, in liberal society, longstanding norms of good behavior make their way into law, primarily regarding extreme practices/behaviors, even when the concern of fueling a black market is absent (or of course, when something such as killing is so obviously unacceptable to everyone, that it's necessarily outlawed regardless of any other considerations). So then, when the concern of fueling a black market is absent? It matters a lot whether that's a realistic concern in a specific case or not, because often the only other remaining argument is that ppl SHOULD be legally permitted to do things that don't infringe, usually physically and immediately, on anyone else's right to life and liberty. If it's a gray area for that latter point, then the black market problem becomes practically the dealbreaker. Are the worst abuses of the sex industry the result of its existence? Or would they be worse and more frequent with legal prohibition? (Sounds like we both want women to mostly be permitted to do what they want with their bodies, but to never be literally trafficked in any form, and there are some good precedents for how those are legally disentangled). Or, (this is separate from "open drug scenes" which should be illegal,) take my own most Overton-pushing issue: Would legalizing (but regulating use/sale) of all drugs, disempower the cartels, if immediately instituted? (No, apparently for somewhat complicated reasons I can't succinctly recapitulate, it would do the opposite). After undermining cartel activity, would this subsequent legalization prevent the formation of future, dangerous black markets? (Almost certainly yes). Would this legalization be in keeping with the rights of adults to buy, sell and partake in whatsoever they wish, within the widest parameters practically possible? (Yes). My heuristic states that: the law should never be used to restrict something that norms, and civil society can sufficiently influence; and that the freedoms of individuals generally should only be legally restricted, when they infringe physically, intolerably, and usually (but not always) immediately, on the basic rights of other individuals. A necessary qualifier (especially for this channel) is of course, that children are not capable of assuming the full rights and responsibilities of adult individuals.

Not for nothing did Einstein keep a portrait of James Clerk Maxwell in his study. The main thing that makes me distrustthe poly community is their scientifically crazy view of the societal norm of monogamy. Most of them seem to think it's people who are mutually mono by orientation oppressing people who are mutually poly by orientation, while the reality is obviously that most people are asymmetrical (having some interest in multiple partners themselves, but wanting exclusivity from their primary partnereven more strongly), such that monogamous norms are a game-theoretic equilibrium.

    Let me tell you a couple of three things: 1. Now have a cosy chat with Andrew Wilson. 2. The root of the problem is economics. Both husband and wife have to work to afford a decent lifestyle in the West. Consequently the housework and childcare are also split 50/50 (in theory). This means there is no longer any quid pro quo. As a man, what have you gained since you stopped being single? You worked and did the household chores then too. Now you've added childcare on top. Which you argue about. As well as the housework. A quick glance at Mumsnet shows the weird psycho-babble about "emotional labour" and "the mental load" (remembering appointments and updating the calendar, apparently) which you have to deal with, which is code for "woman stunned and dismayed to discover that having children, working and running a household isn't a Disney movie". If you think sex, let alone "romance" (which men give and women receive because "they are the table"), are sufficient recompense, you must never have cohabited, been married, or had children with a woman. You can forget sex for starters. 3. The most important lesson any straight - or even gay - man can learn, is to stop equating beauty with goodness. Forget the Tradcons with their "marriage is a sacrament, the cornerstone of a stable society, all you have to do is find a good Christian woman and divorce won't happen to you" nonsense. Protect yourself. Stop thinking with your d**k. A man who can't be manipulated by sex is halfway to invincible in this society. ESCAPE THE PLANTATION & DON'T LOOK BACK.

      I really hate being asked for sources but I'd love to know yours. I've read a lot about the era and never came across a statistic like that. There was poverty but there was respectable work that poor married women could do as well. And this statistic would need to include women living in small villages as well. Also Victoria came to the throne at 18, and died an old lady so it's a period of many decades, when was this? If it's based on Jack the rippers victims, several of whom were married prostitutes, if you read the documents it's obvious that they are living separately from their husbands due to addiction.

So we have an interest in the English poor as well. But the other side of poverty, theft and crime. Women were not transported for prostitution alone, but had to be involved in other criminal activity as well. A famous book on the first ship of female convicts is called, The Floating Brothel. Though the writer admits many of the women were not prostitutes. London did have a strong criminal underclass however. Where as, Ireland for example, was more political crimes. One crime that young women committed, as young as 13, was stripping. Today it sounds innocent enough, but it was horrendous and before telegraph led to the death of many small children. I have also read accounts of working class families, who though not rich, lived comfortably in small cottages. The Victorians drew sharp lines between the respectable poor and the "others". @@cherylderue336 When you read about Jack the Rippers victims it becomes obvious that their customers were all poor working class men. So it may have been what goes around comes around, if the husband is wasting money on prostitutes, and the wife spends a lot of money on gin, well it's a fine state of affairs. And it's a sad fact that the age of consent was still 12, and very young girls were involved. Marriage was a very loosey goosey affair at that time too, especially in London at this time. Many working class people were only married by common law, and others were legally married to someone and living in common law marriage with someone else. You see this in "My Fair Lady" (Pygmalion). Eliza is a flower seller, itself a euphemism for prostitute. When her father thinks she is now a respectable mistress to one man, he's inspired to finally marry her mother who he has lived with for decades. But it wasn't all bad. The industrial revolution lifted many people out of poverty. I've twice visited Quarry Bank Mill in the English country side. It was opened in the 1700s and after many schemes to secure a reliable workforce, in the 1840s settled on providing decent housing. These cottages are still lived in today. They have a cellar, a kitchen, a parlour and two bedrooms. I don't think there was any prostitution, I've heard the workers were regular church goers of the Nonconformist faith.

    I made the mistake of spending time listening to this not knowing that you’d wait for an interesting question and put the rest behind a paywall. You can do what you want with your stuff but I feel stupid. I wish I knew at the beginning that you didn’t want me to watch because I wouldn’t pay.

    About 20 min in and I’m not getting his point. Everyone is a “nonconformist” in some sense or we’d all be living the exact same life. I mean, the nonconformist rebel is a beloved archetype from Robin Hood to Tesla to James Dean to the panorama of gender nonconformities today & on & on & on. This isn’t an idea that’s lacking in history, advocacy, or implementation. I like putting some lemon essential oil in my smoothies -not the “norm” - I’m a proud smoothie nonconformist. Since it’s a given that nonconformity happens at all times everywhere I’m guessing what’s behind his banal cozy pitch of “embracing our uniqueness” or some shit is a idealistic view that norms are expendable for a certain group of people that those norms are holding back in the guise that it’s for everyone. I further guess those people have money and want to reconfigure society and we should all embrace that “nonconformity” cuz it’s good. Since those people are increasingly coming from big tech I don’ think it takes a genius to figure out who this “nonconformist” idea is for. If it isn’t this this guy isn’t saying anything beyond “try some shit out see how it goes”. We all do my guy, it’s called life. Maybe he says something that isn’t this axiomatic and lame at some point but so far in he’s either bullshitting out a meaningless book or isn’t saying the quiet part out loud

    Gotta be clear how we're using "blank slate" here. It's false, I'm not talking econ, I'm talking bio. Future gene editing will be more like, 'we can largely rewrite the slate'. The latest biophysics on phenotype is more like, 'various influences on genes can already, at least partly rewrite the slate'.

    I'm sure Diana Fleischman and Geoffrey Miller can solve the math problem that allows them to raise a healthy family while doing the poly thing. And, I'm sure most ppl can't, lol.
